About Me
Hello. I am Stuart. A while back, shortly after returning to Montreal after living in Hiroshima, Japan for two years, I got interested in the idea of telling the personal stories of Canada's immigrants and taking photos of them. As a Canadian immigrant and former Alien resident of Japan, I know what it is like to uproot from one country and move to and settle in another, and feel totally lost in the process. There was a time when I considered my own immigrant story as nothing more than ordinary. Now, I am not so sure. As someone who works with immigrants in Montreal and grew up with immigrant friends in London, England, I have always been intrigued by the stories of how they ended up in another place, often very different from their homeland, and managed to settle and create a new life there. Many of these heartfelt stories frequently touched me, always taught me something new and never failed to inspire me; so much so that I have been inspired to start the Now I’m Here Project.
